He stated that he’s going to focus on making the game, and only release chapters 3, 4, and 5, when they’re complete. ![]() Well, the answer is something that even Fox doesn’t know. Now only one question remains: when are the next chapters of Deltarune coming out? Regardless, he’s expressed his thanks to the players, and the members of his team, for helping him realize the vision he’s created in the game. Fox has also mentioned that while it’s been difficult to work on the game with other people, he’s been able to make sure that the vision of his game can be seen in the title, without much compromise. However, Deltarune is a whole different beast, and with a larger game, comes a larger development team needed for Chapter 3 and beyond. When it comes to Undertale, the development of the game was largely a solo effort, with Fox doing the programming, the music, and the design by himself, with a bit of help from another creator, Temmie Chang. Fox also mentions in the blog post that this is the first time he’s worked with a larger team. He mentions in his update on Chapter 3 that he wants players to use the money they would’ve spent on Deltarune Chapter 2 to help other independent creators in their endeavors to make the games they want to see. Now, with two chapters free to players, there’s enough content for Fox to show players he’s working on the game and can continue on making the rest of the game to put on steam.ĭeltarune plays more like a traditional RPG than its predecessor (credit tobyfox) The reason that the first two chapters were free is that Fox wanted to give the players something to see to show that the game is coming along. This larger nature of the game is what’s going to make the game cost more. With this in mind, this makes the game open to a grander story, with the player along for the ride while still being able to have some form of say in the story. While it’s too early to say that the game is going to contain multiple endings based on what the player does, the first part of the game makes it perfectly clear that the choices of the player don’t matter as much as Undertale. Fox’s newest endeavor into game design actually puts players into a normal RPG with aspects from his previous game. These choices aren’t something that holds much weight in Deltarune. One thing about the game though is that the endings are dependent on whether or not the player shows kindness, with the longest ending being the playthrough where the player completes the game without harming a single enemy. ![]() This is tied to the fact that the game presents itself as an RPG, with the fighting being an optional part of the game. The longevity of Undertale is the game’s multiple endings, with there being two routes that the player has to go on in a normal playthrough. This sentiment about the game being more than Fox’s previous title isn’t surprising, seeing that the first two chapters of Deltarune are significantly longer than Undertale’s main story, and will only get longer after Chapter 3 comes out. Fox considers it to be an alternate universe, where the events of the game don’t matter, and players are able to experience the game without having played the original article. This idea then spawned into the game Deltarune. After the success with the indie game Undertale, Fox decided to take a step back from his first game and look at an idea that he was previously working on. One developer who knows this all too well is Toby Fox.īeing the creator of a massively popular indie game is one thing, being the creator of two massive indie games is another, especially if the second one is linked to the first title. However, that doesn’t discount the fact that the games made by independent developers are filled with blood, sweat, and tears. Seeing that players have found themselves enjoying games in a matter of hours, unknowingly playing a game that took years upon years to make.
